I have not bothered to turn the trap on for several nights, being far too busy updating this web site with over 30 new species. Task almost completed! Then I will attempt to replace individual images, where I have better ones taken this year.

19/20 October: total 24 species 7, (Min 12.6, Max 13.1C, medium stars, calm). After two weeks away in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains on Cyprus, it is back to normality again. There, I experienced many UK rarities, such as Passenger moths, Portland Ribbon Waves and Olive-tree Beauties (more than you could shake a, well let us simply say an olive branch at!), amongst many others. On numerous nights we experienced numbers well in excess of 1,500 moths - it really was quite an experience!

An outright October record for the total number of moths recorded - smashing all other records by a mile. What an interesting year this is turning out to be. Incredibly, there has been a further hatch of Large Yellow Underwings. In the meantime, my obseravtions of autumn drab-coloured moths continues with watching a Lunar Underwing actually crawling into a small hole and disappearing underground!
